Linda Smith studied philosophy at Stanford University and Washington University and painting at the New York Studio School. As a graphic designer for twenty-five years, she worked for, among others, Duke University, Biblical Archaeologist Magazine and American Scientist Magazine, where she was Art Director for 10 years. For six years, she was also courtroom artist for the local ABC affiliate. She has an illustration in the Smithsonian and her fine art has appeared in Horizon Magazine. Her paintings have been shown in galleries in New York, Raleigh and Durham. The illustrations that appear on this site were created during her tenure at American Scientist Magazine. In addition to graphic design, Linda is now exploring animation and web-related multimedia. She continues to paint. Tessa Smith Perrien got her start in publishing while acquiring a degree in ancient history at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. After two years in NYC at Mademoiselle magazine, she returned to NC and designed books, catalogs, and other marketing materials for Menasha Ridge Press, a publisher of outdoor guidebooks, and the University of North Carolina Press. In 1996 she left the full-time world for the life of a freelancer and has done web and publication design for such clients as Interpath, McGraw-Hill, Duke University and the Forest History Society, among others.
